"About Our Club............"
Over 40 years ago, a dedicated group of individuals found that building and flying model airplanes required more than a vacant back lot to be successful. They created the Club now known as TRACS with a view to making the sport accessible to all those that had an interest in model aviation and to make the sport a safe undertaking. Over the years, both objectives have been more than met.
The club is associated with MAAA (Model Aeronautics Association of Australia), has a membership of some 40 members and, has a flying field available with programs in place to teach the fine art of building and flying planes and helicopters. All aspects of the sport are under constant review with the prime purpose of ensuring that the club is and will continue to be a good community citizen and that all members enjoy a safe and pleasant day at the field. Our association with MAAA provides liability insurance and access to other national organizations. This enables those with the necessary skills to compete in various types of competitions which can include RACING, PRECISION AEROBATICS, and SCALE MINIATURES. For the not so skilled, there are fun-fly’s in each of the above. These sanctioned events may be in the local area or in another part of the country entirely.
Our club enjoys and encourages junior memberships. Internal programs are in place to insure that the junior members can and do have access to all aspects of the sport. They are encouraged to extend themselves beyond just building and flying.
TRACS is proud of the fact that we are an open society, whose members comprise all segments of society and span all age groups, all that is required to be a member is to have an interest in model aviation and to be able to meet the annual levy and a onetime initiation fee.
Our field is open to the public between the hours of 8:00 am to dusk Tuesday and Wednesday and visitors are more than welcome. Should you decide to visit, it is only asked that you respect the basic rules to protect yourself from injury or causing damage to a member’s model. We are all proud of our MASTERPIECES and SPORT and will do our best to answer any and all questions put to us. Enclose footwear is required at our field.
The TRACS Club subscribes to the MAAA "WINGS" program for learning to fly planes and helicopters. This is a process whereby a novice can bring his newly finished model to the field, have a competent instructor check it out and test fly it. The instructor will then go through a course of instruction which will enable a novice to be on his own in a relatively short period. It is a proud moment when one receives his "WINGS".
We believe in good public relations and try to inform the general public about our hobby at every opportunity. TRACS members participate in static displays at Shows and special functions (whenever possible) on request.
